Preface

As the Lord is careful and powerful in the hearts of his own children, when the time of temptation is, that they be not overcome by it, and enables them by his Spirit to put off an ill hour, so the enemy of God’s honor and of man’s salvation, upon the other part, he is also busy to withdraw the heart by temptations, and to put by a good hour, and when we come to serve and worship God, then to draw our hearts away; and as ready as he is to draw them away, also ready are our hearts to go with him. And therefore let us now pray to the Lord, that he would go between us and that enemy of his honor and our salvation, and that he would teach us from above, from himself, and give us a further sight of the truth, and a love to it, for his honor and our comfort, through Jesus Christ.
